A word from your priest-July

Where do I begin to say thank you? In the last couple of weeks while my mom was in the hospital and upon her passing, everyone has been so nice, loving, and helpful. All the prayers, well wishes, condolences, food, hugs and other assistance was a God send during this time of need. I can’t begin to thank you all enough or tell you how much it meant to feel God’s love from my church family. Also, thank you to all of those  that pitched in and made sure the church work kept getting done. And not just the routine but the extra events like the kids choir from North Carolina. Our DRE, Tiffany, stepped in as I was running out the door to the hospital and took over the responsibilities with very little direction. The meals were a huge success. So my thanks to everyone that pitched in. From the generous donation of the Mr. Bee products and other food items, the cooks and others that helped to prepare, serve and clean up the meals to the families that hosted the kids overnight, everyone was awesome! I am so proud of all of you. Looking forward to this summer please remember that we have Vacation Bible Study going on each Wednesday night from June 28 through July 26. We are participating with First Lutheran Church and our Sister Church, Good Shepherd. There is also an adult education component that everyone is invited to attend. We are having clergy from other denominations such as Episcopal, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and others to talk a little about their beliefs and practices and how we can find common ground with each other. Even if you can’t make all of them, please come for the ones you can. Trinity will also be in charge of dinner for July 19, so again Tiffany and I are looking for volunteers for the dinner as well as the VBS programs.

Don’t forget I will be helping out with Family Camp on July 9 – July 15. If you are not coming to camp, please keep me in your prayers. Plans are progressing with the parking lot. We are looking into the paving and landscaping. We are planning to add a sign and fencing that are complimentary with those that are around the old Rectory. I hope to see progress during the month of July. But rest assured there is a lot of thought and effort going into this project. You can see we have a lot of exciting things happening. Please, come and be a part of what God is doing here at Trinity, and as always, bring a friend.

God bless you one and all,

Father Paul+

A Word From Your Priest-June

I want to talk to you about the organization Faith Link. I know some of you are very familiar with this organization and others may not even know the name. But it is an organization that has its roots here at Trinity. It even had its first office on the second floor of the Rectory. I believe it is an organization that is doing good work and one that we may want to be more involved with as part of our outreach efforts. I believe our book sale proceeds have helped to support them for a few years now.

The mission of Faith Link is to assist, primarily, individuals who are 60+, or those with a physical disability or chronic illness, to maintain their independence. Volunteers do such activities as transportation for appointments, shopping/errands, visitations, assist with correspondence, and telephone reassurance calls. You can learn more about what they do at www.faithlink.org. I encourage each of you to pray about whether you might be called individually to serve in this capacity.

I am also interested in your thoughts in regard to a couple of opportunities for our church as a whole to work together with Faith Link. The first is their “Back to School Bash.” This is an event just before school starts (August 15, 2017) where schools supplies are distributed to those who need them. We can certainly contribute supplies, but I am also interested in personal involvement. I discussed with them the possibility of setting up a canopy at the event, maybe a couple of banners, and offer blessings on the back packs. We might even do the same in our new parking lot later on the same day. So we will need some volunteers to help with this event.

In a similar fashion, Faith Link has a program in conjunction with Winding Road Kennel called “Paws to Help”. Maybe we could invite them both to our new parking lot this fall for the blessing of the animals to promote these programs.

Bottom line, I think these are the types of opportunities we should explore to further our presence in the community and share the love of Jesus to those we encounter. What I need to know is your level of interest and who is willing to help. If you have more questions let me know, otherwise, shoot me an email (frpaulhicks@trinitychurch.org) and let me know which one (or both) that you are interested in working on. I have also invited some of the Faith Link people to join us for lunch on Monday to see what we are doing and how we might collaborate.

You can see we have a lot of exciting things happening. Please, come and be a part of what God is doing here at Trinity, and as always, bring a friend.

God bless you one and all,

Father Paul+

PAUL VACATION – Fr. Paul will be away for Continuing Education from May 26th through June 3rd. Contact Susie with any emergencies that may arise.

MAY DONATION ENVELOPES – The May outreach envelopes will be for the Peterkin Scholarship Fund to assist campers who will be attending summer camp this year.

GRADUATION – Graduate Sunday is June 18 . If you have a family member who is graduating from high school or college this year, please call Susie and give her the name and school from which they will be graduating.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Trinity will be participating in Vacation Bible School with First Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd.  It will be held at First Lutheran starting on Wednesday June 28th and will continue each Wednesday in July (5, 12, 19, and 26).  Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm and the program will conclude at approximately 7:30 pm. each night.  There will be an adult component as well for parents or any other interested adult.  Trinity will provide at least one of the dinners and we need a few volunteers to assist with the meals and other aspects of the VBS program.  The Clergy will work together to facilitate the adult forum.

PETERKIN COLLEGE AND YOUNG ADULT CAMP – The College and Young Adult Camp has been moved to the start of the Peterkin camping season, May 30 (Tuesday) -June 3. This is a chance for anyone under 40 who has been out of high school at least one year to experience Peterkin.

ALTAR FLOWERS – There are still several openings for flowers for our altar as shown on The Flower Chart on the bulletin board in Trinity Hall. The two vases of altar flowers cost $50 total, which can be shared with another person, if desired. If you have already signed up for a Sunday, please remember to fill out the form and indicate whether you are giving the flowers in memorial or thanksgiving, or call the office with that information.
